Masters Fellowships in Public Health and Tropical Medicine

The Masters Fellowships in Public Health and Tropical Medicine aims to provide junior researchers from developing countries (low and middle income countries) with an opportunity to acquire an in-depth research experience and training at Master’s Degree level. In so doing, the scheme aids in improving public health and tropical medicine at local, national and global level through a supported research.

The duration of the program is 30 months in which research expenses and fees is cover through the scheme with additional stipend.


Level of Study: Master Degree Programme

Targeted Field:

  • a graduate in a subject relevant to public health or tropical medicine (e.g. biomedical or social science, veterinary medicine, physics, chemistry or mathematics) with a PhD and no more than three years’ postdoctoral experience, or
  • a medical graduate with a higher qualification equivalent to membership of the UK Royal Colleges of Physicians (i.e. qualified to enter higher specialist training) and some initial research experience.

Scholarship Value

The fellowship is worth £120,000 including salary, studentship stipend, fees and research expenses. The fellowship is normally for 30 months (12 months taught Master’s course and 18 months research project).

Eligibility Criteria

Application into the Master’s Fellowship in Public Health and Tropical Medicine is meant for

  • individual from a national of a low or middle income country
  • individuals who hold a clinical or non-clinical undergraduate degree in a subject relevant to public health or tropical medicine.

You must also:

  • be at an early stage in your career with limited research experience (but you must have a demonstrated interest in, or aptitude for, research)
  • have sponsorship from an eligible host organisationin a low- or middle-income country
  • have a research proposal that is within our public health and tropical medicine remit.
