Master Scholarships in Big Data Management and Analytics is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree Program. It is is a unique program that fully covers all of the data management and analytics aspects of Big Data (BD), built on top of Business Intelligence (BI) foundations, and complemented with horizontal skills. It is developed to adheres to international studies and structured to cover all the skills BI and BD specialists require.

Business Intelligence (BI) enables an organization to collect and analyze internal and external data to generate knowledge that support the decision-making processes. Through Big Data, it expands the analytical capabilities of organizations to the extent that any piece of relevant data must be gathered, processed, and analyzed.

BD implies the complete digitalization of the organizations’ internal processes and the incorporation of external data from any available relevant source. Its main objective is to train computer scientists who have an in-depth understanding of the stakes, challenges, and open issues of gathering and analyzing large amounts of heterogeneous data for decision-making purposes.

Hosting Universities: The scholarship is jointly delivered by the following universities –

  • Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Belgium
  • Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Spain
  • Technische Universität Berlin (TUB), Germany
  • Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TUE), Netherlands
  • Université François Rabelais Tours (UFRT), France.

Also these universities had academic partners around the world and partners from leading industries in BI and BD, private companies, excellence centers, service companies, start-up incubators, public research institutes, and public authorities who contribute to the program.

Procedure of the Program

  • Semesters 1 and 2 are devoted to fundamentals on BI and BD delivered by ULB and UPC. Then, all students participate to the European Business Intelligence and Big Data Summer School (eBISS).
  • In semester 3 students chose one of the three specializations delivered by TUB, TU/e, and UFRT.
  • Semester 4 is dedicated to the master’s thesis. All students attend the Final Event devoted to master’s theses defenses and the graduation ceremony.

Scholarship Value

The Erasmus program provides EU-funded scholarships to students who have been selected by the consortia. The scholarship value for students from Partner Countries comprises of the following:

  • Participation costs: up to 9,000 euros per year
  • Travel costs: 2.000 or 3,000 euros per year depending on whether the student is resident of a country whose location is, respectively, less than or more than 4.000 km away from Brussels, the coordinating institution of the BDMA programme.
  • The place of residence will be verified on the basis of the provision of documents such as a residence certificate issued in accordance with the candidate’s municipality normal registration rules or a certificate from the candidate’s place of work, study or training issued by the employer or institution in question. Both documents must have been issued within 12 months before the BDMA official deadline for student selection.
  • The participation costs covering the tuition fees are directly taken by the consortium. The remainder of the scholarship will be allocated to selected students in a two yearly installments, each one covering half of the travel costs.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have been awarded a Bachelor’s degree with a major in computer science, from an accredited university.
  • The candidates university must be listed in the World Higher Education Database.
  • They must be able to demonstrate proficiency in English by means of an internationally recognized test equivalent to level B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
