Marshall Scholarship to Study in UK

Marshall Scholarship is one of the most prestigious scholarships for U.S. citizens. It provides young American citizens to pursue a postgraduate degree program in any university in United Kingdom. The scholarship is also created to build a strong tie between the United States and the United Kingdom by supporting intellectually distinguished young America and its future leaders academically in various fields of study.

Some other objectives of the Marshall Scholarship includes the following:

  • To help scholars gain an understanding and appreciation of contemporary Britain.
  • To contribute to the advancement of knowledge in science, technology, the humanities and social sciences, and the creative arts at Britain’s centres of academic excellence.
  • To motivate scholars to act as ambassadors from the U.S. to the UK and vice versa throughout their lives thus strengthening British American understanding.
  • To promote the personal and academic fulfillment of each scholar.

Level of Study: Master Degree Program

Eligible Courses: All course a applicable except the following –

  • Second BA/BSc (undergraduate) Degrees
  • MBA (any university)
  • MSc/MFE Financial Economics (any university)
  • PG Diplomas/Certificates in any subject (any university)
  • Degree courses leading to professional qualifications in medicine, dentistry, veterinary science and law (these degrees typically take 5 years to complete)
  • Degree courses that require extended periods away from the University or the UK, including joint degrees with Universities not in the UK
  • Distance Learning degree courses, including courses with large VLE or online components
  • Masters degree courses exceeding 12 or 24 months, including 15 or 28 month Masters degree courses
  • Supervised research not leading to a degree qualification
  • Degree courses that start in January
  • Part-time degree courses

Scholarship Value

The Marshall Scholarship covers the following –

  • University fees,
  • Cost of living expenses,
  • Annual book grant,
  • Thesis grant,
  • Research and daily travel grants,
  • Fares to and from the United States and,
  • Where applicable, a contribution towards the support of a dependent spouse.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be citizens of the United States of America (at the time they apply for a scholarship);
  • (By the time they take up their scholarship i.e. September 2024) hold their first undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the United States;
  • Have obtained a grade point average of not less than 3.7 on their undergraduate degree at the time of application. We do not accept rounded GPA’s.
  • Have graduated from their first undergraduate college or university after April 2021.
  • Not have studied for, or hold a degree or degree-equivalent qualification from a British University or GCSE or A Levels taken at school in the UK.

How To Apply

Application for the Marshall Scholarship is to be made via the organization’s online application. Applicant is to fill out the scholarship application form and to be submitted through the system to their undergraduate institution.

After application, the applicant’s institution is to endorse the candidate for the scholarship. Once endorsement is made, they will add the letter of endorsement and will then submit it through the system to the appropriate regional committee.
