GW University Graduate Student Fellowship

The George Washington University, U.S, through the Office of the Graduate Student Assistanships ands Fellowship announces its funding opportunities for incoming graduate students for Master’s and PhD levels. The fellowship is intended for GW graduate students who will be future leaders in their fields and be able to impact in their home countries upon their return to their countries.

The following funding opportunities are available –

  • Grad2Grad Program (for students beginning graduate school in fall 2023)
  • William D. Clarke, Sr. Diplomatic Security Fellowship
  • NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP)
  • Horowitz Foundation For Social Policy Research Grant
  • Foreign Affairs Information Technology (FAIT) Fellowship

The George Washington University is a private federally chartered research university in Washington, D.C. Chartered in 1821 by the United States Congress, GW is one of six universities in the United States with a congressional charter.

GW is classified among R1: Doctoral Universities – Very High Research Activity. It is a member of the Association of American Universities. The university offers degree programs in seventy-one disciplines, enrolling around 11,500 undergraduate and 15,000 graduate students. It supports it student through provision of scholarships and funding opportunities for its graduate students for intensive research.

The purpose of the Fellowship Programs is to help ensure the quality, vitality, and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce of the United States and also to broaden participation of the full spectrum of diverse talents in STEM.

Level of Study: Master and PhD Degree Program

Eligible Countries: Students from any country are eligible.

Benefits of the Scholarship

  • The Fellowship value in variable amounts which covers funds for books, living, and other expenses, and must provide certification of this support.
  • The Fellowship is renewable each year for a maximum of three years for Master’s candidates and up to five years for doctoral candidate.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The fellowship is for students who have not studied or worked in the U.S. or other countries except from their home country.
  • Intend to enroll or be enrolled full-time in a research-based Master’s or doctoral degree program in an eligible Field of Study.
  • Have completed no more than one academic year (according to institution’s academic calendar) while enrolled in a graduate degree program.
  • Never earned a doctoral or terminal degree in any field.
  • Applicants must have a certificate Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 600 on the paper-based exam or 100 on the internet based exam, or an IELTS overall band score of 7.5 (with no individual band below 6.0).

How To Apply

Applicant for the Fellowship are to apply for an admission into an eligible course of study offered at the university. Application and submission of necessary required document are to be done via each fellowship application portal before deadline.
