Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship: The Irish Research Council through the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science offers the international students the Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship.
Scholarship Overview
Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship is majorly provided to postgraduate education as well as improve research work in the Irish ecosystem. It is a highly competitive program, with an average success rate of 18% over the past five years. It is designed to support outstanding students in various fields of study through its provision of research facilities and funds. Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship has its funding partners for its 2024 program. They include –
- Environmental Protection Agency
- Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth
- Department of Foreign Affairs
- Met Éireann
The scholarship is a national initiative by Irish government to support research work in the country. The scholarship is funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, and managed by the Council. The Postgraduate Scholarship Programme features are as follows:

Scholarship Value
The value of the scholarship will be up to of €28,000 per annum in any approved year and will cover of the following:
- a stipend of €19,000 per annum;
- a contribution to fees, including non-EU fees, up to a maximum of €5,750 per annum; and
- eligible direct research expenses of €3,250 per annum.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant must have an outstanding academic records.
- Must posses research potential by presentation of a clear and compelling research proposal.
- All applicants must be affiliated with an eligible Irish higher education institution or research-performing organization.
- Applicants must not have had two previous unsuccessful applications to the relevant program, including to strategic partner themes.

Application for the scholarship is to be carried out at the Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Portal. Applicants are required to read the 2024 Call Documentation to fully understand to required documents to be uploaded during the scholarship application.
