What is TOEFL?

TOEFL is an abbreviation for Test of English as a Foreign Language. It is an English proficiency test, developed by an American company, ETS, to assess an individual’s reading, speaking, writing, and listening proficiency in American English. This test is accepted in Australia and the UK, and it is likely that American institutions will favor this exam over the IELTS test. This test costs between $165 – $300 with most countries under $200.

The TOEFL test is usually conducted in the form of an online test, but if internet connection is lacking in the test centre, then a paper-based test can be offered. As part of admission requirement, you may discover some courses require a lower TOEFL score which will permit you to proceed onto the course with the regular course requirements.
