Amsterdam Merit Scholarship in Netherland

The University of Amsterdam, Netherland offers Amsterdam Merit Scholarship for the internationally outstanding Master’s students from outside Europe.

University of Amsterdam is a public research university located in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is one of two large and publicly funded research universities in the city and part of the largest research universities in Europe. It is accredited by the Dutch government and the NVAO and also a member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU).

UvA offers up to  200 English-taught Master’s programmes are available at the UvA faculties:

  • Faculty of Science

Benefits of Amsterdam Merit Scholarship

The AES is a full scholarship which amount €5,000. It covers tuition and living expenses for one academic year with the possibility of extension for a second year for two-year Master’s programmes.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality: Applicant must be a student from non-EU country. That is student from outside of Europe.
  • Academic Record: Applicant must posses a good academic record in  the top percientile.
  • Must have submitted a complete application to one of the MSc programmes of Economics and Business.
  • Must be able to comply with Dutch visa regulations as indicated by the Dutch Immigration Service (IND).
  • Applicant has not receive a full coverage scholarship for the same period of study as the AMS scholarship.

Application Procedure

Applicants are to submit their application for the scholarship to the Admissions Offices of the Graduate Schools. The following document are required during application for the scholarship –

  • Proof of an outstanding GPA at least (Magna) Cum Laude (Dutch system), a first-class honours (UK) or 3.7 (USA).
  • Motivation letter (use no more than 300 words to tell us why you deserve this scholarship).
  • Proof of English proficiency (if applicable)-
    • TOEFL IBT: overall score of 100 (minimum score of 22 in each component, higher subscores give you an advantage);
    • IELTS (Academic test): overall score of 7.0 (minimum score of 7.0 in each component, you can apply with a subscore of 6.5 but higher subscores give you an advantage);
    • Cambridge Assessment English: Certificate in Advanced English: 190 points overall and in each skill or Certificate of Proficiency in English: 190 points overall and in each skill.
  • GMAT/GRE test (if applicable) with at least the expected scores for the programme, see admission and application info for the programme. A high score gives you an advantage.
